ORDA Ethiopia to distribute emergency food aid to Waghemra IDP

ORDA Ethiopia announced that it was transporting 1,000 quintals of wheat flour obtained from Abay Bank to the war affected people in Waghemra Zone.

Dr. Alemayehu Wassie, Executive Director of ORDA Ethiopia, while receiving the aid from Abay Bank, said currently more than 11.6 million people are in need of emergency assistance in the region. Dr. Alemayehu gratefully appreciated Abay bank and its staff for their humanitarian aid.

Dr. Alemayehu calls for institutions& individuals to support the needy people located in North Wollo, Waghamra, West Gojjam, North Gondar and North Shoa IDPs who are displaced from Oromia, Benishangul-Gumuz regions, and other internal displacements due to the war.

He also sympatheticallyrequested Donors, Universities, Insurance Companies, Banks, Diplomats and Investors to follow the footsteps of Abay Bank to support the IDPs in collaboration with ORDA Ethiopia.

The Executive Director noted since ORDA Ethiopia haslong years’ experience in emergency, rehabilitation and development endeavors, funding institutes & private firms to provide mattresses, blankets, nutritious foods staff, biscuit, macaroni, spaghetti etc. to lactating mothers, infants, the ealderly and people with disability.

Abay Bank Chief Strategic and Marketing Head, Wondifraw Tadesse, on his part said Abay Bank employees have donated their salaries for the past three months to reach the needy people and assistefforts of the government. Ato Wondifraw states recognizing the socio-economic crisis in the region, the bank undertakes its social responsibility. He added that Abay Bank decided to distribute 1,000 quintals of wheat worth 4 million Birr through ORDA Ethiopia in the first round. The aid is given to express their belongingness and offer a moral support for the displaced people.
