W/ro Ergo Siraj, a mother of five from Kes Kebele, Habru Woreda, faced severe challenges feeding her twin sons, who suffered from malnutrition. With support from ORDA Ethiopia and UNICEF’s Climate Smart Nutrition Project, she received three goats—now seven—and began feeding her children goat milk and eggs. Their health improved, and both exited the emergency nutrition program. Ato Muluken Tarekegn, a father of five from Agrit Kebele, North Wollo, faced severe food insecurity and child malnutrition. With support from ORDA Ethiopia and UNICEF’s Climate Smart Nutrition Project, he received three sheep, added hens and a cow, and began preparing nutritious meals. His children recovered, his marriage strengthened, and his livestock assets grew to 11 sheep. Now earning income and inspiring others, Muluken is determined to expand his farming and become a role model in his community.
From limitation to liberation through Beekeeping and Livestock Farming, the story of a young woman

Zaritu Gilete Mekonen, a 26-year-old woman from 01 Kebele, Amhara Saynt, has demonstrated remarkable determination in overcoming the challenges of living with a physical disability. Despite obstacles that once limited her opportunities, she has started a new journey toward independence through beekeeping and livestock farming.
Koti Kebele, home to over 5,600 people across six watersheds, has long struggled with land degradation, water scarcity, and declining productivity. In response, ORDA Ethiopia and RVO launched the Reversing the Flow (RtF) project in October 2024—a community-led initiative designed to restore landscapes, empower local institutions, and improve livelihoods through inclusive, participatory natural resource management.
