Amahra Trachoma Elimination Program launching workshop conducted

Blindness due to trachoma is irreversible. It is known to be a public health problem in 42 countries. It is responsible for the blindness or visual impairment of about 1.9 million people just over 200 million people live in confirmed trachoma endemic areas 76 million live in Ethiopia and are at risk of trachoma blindness. Out of the 76 million people at risk in the country, more than 22 million (29%) live in Amhara region.

In order to overcome the problem, trachoma elimination in the Amhara region will be implemented for the next 3 years in the Amhara region with a budget support of 19.8 million birr from Christian Blind Mission (CBM) Italy.

The project will contribute to the elimination of trachoma at the national level in Ethiopia
