ORDA Ethiopia’s Integrated Community Development Project is implementing drinking water schemes, irrigation development, horticulture, animal husbandry, and fattening in Libokemkem Woreda of South Gondar Zone to improve poor households’ livelihood. The project has completed the construction of Sheni Irrigation in Derita Kebele and the Dresla Irrigation Project in Agella Mantogera Kebele. The Sheni Irrigation Development Project will benefit 96 (F: 12) households and will develop 60 hectares. The Dresla Irrigation Development will also benefit 88 (F: 21) households by developing 39 hectares of land.

As a result, irrigation development projects have been handed over to the Woreda Agriculture Office in the presence of the woreda senior management and the beneficiary community, including the Woreda Administrator on 13 July 2021 planting fruit seedlings on beneficiaries plot. During the handover, Integrated Community Development Program Project Manager, Atanaf Ambachew, said that if the projects are implemented properly, they will play an important role in helping farmers produce twice a year and become self-sufficient in food.

The project has been implementing with Birr 83 million budget secured from #Glimmer of Hope nongovernmental organization in Libokemkem woreda of 9 kebeles since 2018. The project enables the farmers to engage in value chains of Cattle fattening, shoat rearing, and Poultry, Onion & Garlic cultivation.
