Empowering Girls through Hygiene and Education
The Positive Impact of the WASH Project at Senyo Gebeya Primary and Middle School
ORDA Ethiopia and #UNICEF have transformed Senyo Gebeya Primary and Middle School through water, sanitation, and hygiene support. The school has gained separate toilets for boys and girls, a solar-powered water system, and a Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) room. These changes have removed barriers and have given students dignity, safety, and confidence to learn.
- Principal Fasikawu Demle has witnessed a great improvement in hygiene and water access. He has thanked ORDA Ethiopia and UNICEF for helping students learn without worry.
- Student Hanna Samuel (13) has received sanitary pads, soap, and private toilets. She has stayed in school during her periods instead of missing classes.
- Student Meseret Mokoya (15) has benefited from a menstrual resting room with a shower. She has continued her lessons and her academic results have improved.
These testimonies have shown how the project has empowered girls, supported education, and created lasting change.
