Planting seedlings and developing forests

Forest Development

• Allows for better rainfall distribution

• Prevents desertification and climate change

• Eliminates soil erosion that is being washed away by floods

• Enhances groundwater

• Enhances better crop production and livestock development

• Our dams, especially the Grand Renaissance Dam, will not be filled with silt

For the past 23 years, ORDA Ethiopia has grown and cultivated indigenous and exotic seedlings.

Out of the total forest cover, 56.75 million seedlings were planted on 18,067 hectares of land through the Community Forest Development Program, greening program.

ORDA Ethiopia transferred 17,967 hectares of forest to the local community and the government in order to sustainably develop the forest and benefit the community. In general, the organization was awarded the 2007 National Green Hero Award for its development work in the Amhara region.
