ORDA Ethiopia to provide over 10 thousand quintals of emergency food aid in Gashena, Lalibela, and Meket

Many people are displaced and dead, and while many others are starved to death due to war attacks. For this reason, the organization's senior management is closely working with funding donors to save the lives of people who are most at risk of starvation.

Ato Eshete Gelaw, Deputy Executive Director of the Organization, said emergency aid has been provided to the liberated areas, recognizing the severe human and material damage caused to the region.

He added ORDA, in collaboration with CRS, has practically demonstrated its intimacy of the people of Gashena, Lalibela, Geregera, Filakit and Kon in need of emergency assistance during this challenging time.

Abebe Maru, a married and father of three daughters, was among those who received emergency aid. He said that because of the war, the farmers have not been able to take care of the crops they planted in their small fields, and they have lost their crops. He thanks from heart for the donation of wheat, edible oil and splitted pea (wot) as the family hasn’t any food left at home. The food aid obtained from charitable organizations save his life and the lives of his family.

Some management members of ORDA Ethiopia visited centers of food distribution programs (FDPs) in those areas. It was observed that FDPs’ food commodities were completely looted and partially destroyed (including documents).
