Due to the northern Ethiopia war, human and material damage were reported, especially in North and South Wollo; in Waghamra Zone as well as in the neighboring Afar Region. According to the Amhara region Disaster Prevention, Food Security and Special Needs Commission, a total of 2,83,278 people (children, pregnant and lactating women, persons with disabilities & the elderly) have been displaced from their homes. Those who fled from North Wollo and Wagrara Zone as well as the neighboring region (Afar) and who were in IDPs centers in the towns of Hayike, Tehuledere, Dessie, and Kombolcha again fled to Debre Berhan and other woredas in North Shoa Zone as the war intensified. They are settled in temporary IDP centers. As a result, they suffered from severe malnutrition & social disorder.

ORDA Ethiopia’s food commodity management & Emergency program in collaboration with the Christian relief service (CRS) has provided 47,843 quintals of wheat, 4,784 quintals of peas, and 143,530 liters of vegetable oil to 318,955 IDPs sheltered in Debre Berhan. According to Dr. Alemayehu Wasse, executive director of the organization, the aid will be distributed in the coming days. In Meket woreda, 39,798 quintals of wheat, 3,979 quintals of peas, and 119,394 liters of vegetable oil are being distributed to 265,332 IDPs and those who have lost their livelihoods, he said.

4,950 quintals of wheat, 495 quintals of peas, and 14,850 liters of oil have been prepared for distribution to 33,000 IDPs in Bahir Dar Zenzelma temporary shelter which fled from Woldiya, Gashena, Gubalafto, Angot, Gazo, Bugna, Wadla, Zkuala, Tsagibzi, Angot, and other woredas. A total of 1,897 quintals of wheat, pea, and cooking oil were distributed for 11,195 IDPs.
