The project is carrying out its activities at Gelda river which is found at Gonbat kebele in Bahir Dar Zuria and Korata kebele in Dera Hamusit districts. According to Ato Habte Achamyeleh, supervisor of the project, 93% of the reservoir and a 3 kilometers canal are completed. Farmers Banchamlak Adane and Mengesha Fentie residents in Korata kebele claimed the river Gelda erodes the soil and kills fauna of the region. It was by no means useful in the area. Taking this into consideration, the government of the region in collaboration with development agents like ORDA is doing its best maximizing the potential of irrigation which can change the livelihood of farmers. Deputy administrator and office of Agriculture head of Dera district Ato Chemere Teklu said the district has a total of 68 thousand hectare of arable land and 13 thousand is being developed for irrigation. The number of beneficiary farmers will exceed after the completion of the project of ORDA.
