ORDA Ethiopia has been implementing a project in West Belsa and Enebse Sarmedir Woredas to empower women's political participation and empower them as leaders and decision-makers.
ORDA Ethiopia and Alem Berhan in partnership with Bahir Dar University conducted a panel discussion that deals about policies, laws and practices related to women's political participation, leadership and decision-making.
ORDA Ethiopia Deputy Executive Director for Resource Management Shibre Jorga (Ph.D.) said while opening the workshop that if women prove themselves in political leadership, it will create a favorable environment for them to get an opportunity to participate in economic and social fields. She added that women should have a role in decision-making beyond statistics and representation.
According to Dr.Mesert Zewedu from Bahir Dar University, said while presenting the research that the lack of mandatory law on the policy and laws hindered the development of women's political participation and decision-making, and it should be improved.
Representatives from the Amhara Regional Council, Women's Affairs Bureau, Justice Bureau, West Belsa and Enbse Sarmedir Woredas Government Offices participated in the workshop.
