The construction of the Atsede Mariam deep well which benefits 9 thousand 261 residents is on the way to be completed. It is constructed by ORDA Ethiopia’s Inclusive Health, Economic and Social Development program (IHESDP) project in collaboration with the funding donor Hope & Healing International.

The Inclusive Health, Economic and Social Development program (IHESDP) project has been working to improved wellbeing of girls, boys and families, with disability and at risk of disability in trachoma epidemic communities in Amhara Region. The project is being implemented for five-years since 2019 in Guna Begie Midir & Andabet woredas, South Gondar Zone.

Among activities undertaken by the project is the 13,920,360.37 birr worth project, Atsede Mariam deep well safe drinking water, which will benefit 2,058 families. It has 9 water stations. A pipeline covering 11.64 km from the main water source, Wofchame, to the user Atsede Mariam Kebele has been installed which is piped by solar system.

The construction of the water project has been completed, but the government has not yet installed a power transformer, as it will use electricity to draw water from the deep well to the main water tank. According to information from the project office, the water plant could not be put into operation immediately due to electric transformer problem.
