Land for Life-Amhara project Familiarization Workshop Held

                    Land for Life-Amhara project

Consultative workshop on key challenges and opportunities of land governance in general and land-based investment in Amhara Regional State held in Debre Markos on 12 June 2021.

ORDA Ethiopia in collaboration with the strategic partner welthungerhilfe with a fund secured from GIZ, implements Land for Life-Amhara project in two selected woredas in the region. The project targets to form and strengthen Amhara regional Multi Actor Partnership on land governance.

In the workshop, stakeholders presented on:

  • The status of land governance in Amhara Regional State: Legal frameworks, policies, strategies and programs.
  • The opportunities and challenges of land-based investments in Amhara Regional State: Size and mix of investments with their social-economic and environmental impacts of investment including gender dimensions.
  • Communities, relevant government stakeholders and investors integration, gaps, challenges and recommendations.
  • Environmental safe guarding/impact assessment and land based investment
  • Land governance and its importance for Land based investment at national and regional level. Concerned regional, zonal and woreda level government bodies, farmers, investors, ORDA Ethiopia and GIZ staff come together & held a thorough discussion on those key milestones and did context analysis.

Participants from Amhara Regional State Rural Land Administration and Use Bureau, Environmental Protection, Forest and Wildlife Development Authority, East & West Gojjam Zone heads, Womberma & Debre Elias Woredas, ORDA Ethiopia and GIZ heads and experts were actively engaged.
