     Livelihoods for Resiliency Activity Launching Workshop Held

Feed the Future Ethiopia - Livelihoods for Resilience Activity Project Launching Workshop held on 20 April 2017, Bahir Dar, Ethiopia.

The project is targeted to benefit over 36 thousand households with a total budget of 70 Mllion Birr in seven woredas of the Amhara Region.

During the opening remark, Head of Bureau of Finance & Economic Cooperation Dr. Tilahun Mehari said ORDA is a distinct developmental partner of the people of the region and the government. ORDA benefited over half a million people to secure food & nutrition gaps in the region, he said.

Dr. Tilahun ensured that the government is committed to carryout developmental activities with ORDA and partners to improve the society’s livelihood through collaborations.
Ato Reta Assegid, USAID Representative, on his part asserted USAID has been financing Ethiopian Developmental Activities to alleviate poverty. 

He said the project is an extension of GRAD I which is targeted to support the government’s safety net program.

Mr. John Mayer, Chief of Party of Care Ethiopia, stated ORDA GRAD project had magnificent impacts and lessons unlike other similar projects implemented all over the country. He articulated that Livelihoods for Resilience Activity Project will be much more fruitful.

Executive Director of ORDA, Dr. Amlaku Asres claimed ORDA in 33 years achieved nearly 670 million seedlings & covered over 117 thousand hectares of land which contributed 4.2 % of the Region’s plantation, constructed about 4, 970 water schemes accessing for over 2.3 million people & 244 SIS which can potentially irrigate over 22, 600 ha of land, and over 660 thousand households secured their food and nutrition gaps, he said.

Beneficiaries from GRAD I impressively offered testimony of their livelihood changes due to the support of the project.

Ato Shimelis Mohammed, PMPLE Director finally presented on the detailed five years plan of the project and a thorough discussion was made among respective stakeholders to make the project fruitful.

people withdrew from ANRS Bureau of Finance & Economic Cooperation, Agriculture, Livestock Promotion, Women & Children, Youth & Sport Affairs, Zonal & Woreda Administrative bodies & ORDA heads & experts participated in the workshop.
