ORDA JOHN’S Rig WaSH Project familiarization workshop colorfully held
(21 Jan 2017, Debre Markos)

ORDA funded by Welt hunger hilfe through VIVA CON AGUA officially launched a new project to work on potable water supply, hygiene and sanitation (WaSH) activities to be carried out in 5 woredas of East Gojjam Zone with a total budget of over 220 million birr.

JOHN’S Rig WaSH Development project is planned to be implemented in Gozamen, Sinan, Aneded, Debre-Elias & Machakel districts of East Gojjam Zone benefiting nearly 280 thousand rural children, women and men in the supply of safe water, hygiene & sanitation starting from 2016 to 2024. This is probably the biggest fund that ORDA secured to carryout WaSH schemes.


During the workshop, ORDA’s Deputy Executive & Programs Director Ato Dejene Minliku remarked the Organization for Rehabilitation and Development in Amhara (ORDA) is a dependable developmental partner of the region. The Organization also fruitfully achieved multi-developmental interventions in the region. For more than three decades, ORDA made significant livelihood changes of the society. ORDA, with its major thematic areas of Environment & Forest Development, Water & Irrigation, Agriculture & Disaster Risk Management and gender & youth development programs, have been carrying out astonishing developmental actions.

Tens of thousands of smallholder agriculturalists have started changing their lives through soil and water conservation, agricultural technologies which boost crop & animal productivity. ORDA has also been constructing potable water & small scale irrigation schemes in different corners of the region.


Chief Administrator of East Gojjam Zone Ato Temesgen Tiruneh stated that ORDA and partners have accomplished vital developmental endeavors in the zone in areas of irrigation schemes, roads & bridges and water points are worth mentioning.

While paying tribute to ORDA funded by Welt hunger hilfe and VIVA CON AGUA to launch WaSH project in rural areas of the zone, Ato Temesgen promised to work collaboratively with Water, Agriculture, Education, Children & women & Health sectors so as to make the project fruitful before the project period.

In the familiarization workshop a thorough discussion was made for questions and suggestions of participants composed from sectors heads & experts from zonal & woreda, Welt hunger hilfe& ORDA.
