Mrs. SebleWongel Gebre, aged 28, lives in Ebinat town, south Gondar Zone. She attended her college education in Animal production level 2. But, she could not get any job for her academic status is level 2 whereas most office jobs need above level 3 educational qualification. As a result, she joined in the production of local beer. Yet, her income was not enough good to lead her life. Hence, she was doing different off works to strengthen her income.
ORDA’s Improving youth employment through soft skills training and other supports project, which has an aim to create a job for 200 jobless youth (F: 100), was launched on July 2018 in Ebnat woreda, South Gondar Zone with a total budget of 5,245,696 secured from Gafat Endowment Enterprise (95.3 % share) & ORDA (4.7 % share). On that occasion, Ms. SebleWongel had been recruited to be beneficiary as she was jobless.

She used to produce local beer to generate an income. However, her income was less and hinders her from engaging in marriage. The project gave her Birr 45 thousand loans, and she opened the Enjjera supplier enterprise.

“ORDA’s improving youth employment through soft skills training and other supports project gave me entrepreneurship training & a loan of Birr 45 thousand at 8% interest rate. I bought utensils & pieces of equipment for my café, and I started my work in a container home obtained from the government in February 2020. I bake injera and bread and cook ‘Shiro’. Now I earn a net profit of Birr 300 to 400 per day. I have been paying Birr 3,450 for loan interest & principal monthly”, she said.

She thanked ORDA for its financial and technical support. Finally, she told us she would have a mission to have a medium size café and to create a job for others by expanding her business.
