Alley Cropping

                      Alley Cropping

Alley cropping (hedgerow intercropping) is a multi-cropping practice–two or more types of plants growing on the same area of land at the same time, shrubs and other plants are grown in hedgerows. An understanding of how different trees, shrubs, and grasses respond to specific site conditions will be an invaluable tool in designing a successful alley cropping practice. Hedge rows check runoff and erosion when formed along contours or across slopes; improvement in yield of crops raised in the alleys.
