Deputy Chief Administrator remarked ORDA’s commendable role in filling developmental gaps of the region is irreplaceable

ORDA & FH Ethiopia funded by USAID through WVE kicked off a launching Workshop from 12-13 January 2017 in Kombolcha to implement Development Food Assistance Program (DFAP) II.  The program has a total budget of over 4 billion birr in cash & food commodity to address more than half a million people in the Amhara region.

 Deputy Chief Administrator of the Amhara National Regional State his Excellency Ato Binalf Andualem in his opening remark disclosed the role of ORDA in filling commendable developmental & food security gaps in the region is to be taken as exemplary among best performing actors.

The organization has changed the lives of tens of thousands of smallholder farmers in delivering soil and water conservation techniques, integrated watershed management, reforestation, biodiversity, potable water supply, hygiene and sanitation, small scale irrigation, productive safety net including livelihood improvement (PSNP), integrated food security and improved agricultural technologies Ato Binalf said.

The deputy chief administrator called upon workshop participants composed from zonal & woreda administrative, heads & experts from sectoral offices, ORDA & FH Ethiopia to closely work hand in hand in order to change the livelihood of farmers.

Executive Director of ORDA Dr. Amlaku Asres on his part asserted the contribution of the fund in ensuring food, livelihood and environmental security leads to realize sustainable development and social transformation. The executive director added the the 5 year program (2016 to 2020) intervenes in strengthening PSNP for institutions and resilience focusing on enhancement of livelihoods, resilience increment to manage risks and improvement of food security and nutrition for pregnant, lactating mother & children and rural households vulnerable to food insecurity target areas (13 woredas) of the region.

It is also indicated that the program targets to carryout best achievements from DFAP I particularly, comprehensive land husbandry, integrated watershed, soil and water conservation, improved agricultural technologies and small irrigation schemes will be intensively scaled out.

Dr. Gutu Tesso representative from World Vision Ethiopia (WVE) expressed his happiness to work with ORDA which he thought the program will lay a fertile ground in accomplishing further developmental activities in the region. Dr. Gutu claimed WVE is ready in assisting ORDA in various ways to fruitfully implement DFAP II program.

Ato Yilma Worku & Seid Abate Chief administrator of Waghemera special zone and Dehana woreda head of office of agriculture respectively explained the official familiarization DFAP II supported them to be aware of goals of the program. They said activities of the program will be aligned with their plan to collaboratively work and achieve the maximum. Ato seid noted best practices of comprehensive land husbandry an incredibly changed degraded mountains to productive lands. According to the head of office of agriculture, DFAP I scientific approach capitalized productivity and water catchment and the woreda has planned to scale it up in 28 kebeles & 55 watersheds.

Eventually, woreda & zonal heads has vowed with a written document to carry out the program activities effectively.
