ORDA employees express readiness to provide support for Grand Dam construction

Employees of Organization for Rehabilitation and Development in Amhara (ORDA) expressed their readiness to provide the necessary support toward success of construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

More than 45 employees withdraw from Projects & HO of ORDA visited construction of the Dam being carried out in Guba Woreda of Benishangul Gumuz State from 1 June to 3 June, 2013.

Speaking on the occasion Ato Tadesse Aebegaze, ORDA-South Gonder Coordination Office head, said construction of the Dam should not be left to the government alone. He also urged the public to further intensify the ongoing support to complete construction of the Dam.

abay dam visit 2Furthermore, two of the project mangers of ORDA, Mentewab Belay and Assem Tesfaw, on their parts said that the Dam is pride to the country; therefore, soil and water conservation and natural resource protection should be carried out to protect the Dam from silt. Also, they praised the persons who took the initiatives.

abay dam visit 3One of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam construction Project Engineers on his part said construction of the Dam is well in progress and it is expected to be finalized as per schedule. Besides, he added the Dam is the biggest hydro electric power project in Africa.

The employees confirmed their readiness to provide all needed assistance in addition to financial support towards success of construction of the Dam.

It is noted that Ethiopia covers the entire cost for construction of the Dam, which will have capacity to generate 6000MW electric power.

PM Meles Zenawi laid foundation stone for construction of the Dam on 2 April 2011.
