Development Partners sign an agreement for new project initiative

It is disclosed that governmental and non-governmental development partners in the Amhara Region signed recently an agreement for new project initiative.The agreement ceremony was held in Avanti Blue Nile Hotel, Bahir Dar.

It’s indicated that the partners that signed the agreement are the Organization of Rehabilitation Development in Amhara /ORDA/, the Canadian Food for Hunger /CHF/, the Bureau of Agriculture and the Cooperative Promotion Agency.

In the occasion, His Excellency Gedu Andargachew, Vice President of the Amhara National Regional State and Head of Bureau of Agriculture, expressed his conviction that the Market Led Development Project /MILEAR/ will ensure the benefit of the communities living in the project districts, Artuma Fursi and Dewa Chefa.  The interventions that ORDA and CHF implemented earlier have enabled the people in Bati district and its vicinity being self-reliant, his excellence reminded.

As understood from the project agreement document, MILEAR project has been implemented with the budget allocated over 106.7 million ETB and is expected to benefit over 40 thousand people. It’s also reported that the duration of the project is five years, from the period July 2012 to June 2017.

sign agreement 2It’s also mentioned that the project will involve in different areas of intervention: promoting irrigation development, rising production and productivity of farmers engaging in rain-fed agricultural activities, diversifying sources of income through comprehensive natural resource management, livestock development, building economic generation capacity of small land holders and landless youths and women, ensuring value chain approach for irrigation schemes’ users and other farmers and empowering cooperatives.

Mesfin Gebre Medhin, External Resource Mobilization and NGOs Coordination Deputy Head, the Bureau of Finance and Economic, affirmed that ORDA has gained reputation in its implementation performance. And then, he appealed ORDA and key partners of the project to discharge their respective responsibility.

sign agreement 3The Canadian Food for Hunger /CHF/ Country Director, Salfiso Kitabo, on his part, reminded that the fund allotted for the project has been secured from the donors, whom they believe in giving as responsibility and raising fund as right, besides of the relentless effort of his organization and ORDA. And its stakeholders should intensify their exertion to a fruition of the project, Salfiso stressed.

Dr. Ambachew Mekonnen, ORDA’s Executive Director, expressed his gratitude to CHF for having long term partnership with ORDA and its continuous and meaningful support for the development effort of the organization and the region as well. 

ORDA will discharge its own responsibility in a bid to let the Market Led Development Project /MILEAR/ attains its goal in bringing about livelihood betterment on the beneficiary communities, as Dr. Ambachew vowed. 

It’s indicated that representatives from the Bureau of Agriculture, the Cooperative Promotion Agency,, the Bureau of Finance and Economic, the Organization of Rehabilitation Development in Amhara /ORDA/ and the Canadian Food for Hunger /CHF/ took part in the occasion.
