Over 740 farmers benefited from MILEAR Project

Market-led Improved Livelihoods in Eastern Amhara Region (MILEAR) Project activities funded by Canadian Hunger Foundation (CHF) was visited on the 6th April 2014 at Oromia zone of Amhara Region.

Starting from the launching year 2013, MILEAR successfully rehabilitated 3 small irrigation schemes which maximized the amount of irrigable land by 265 hectares. Those three schemes benefit 332 farmers of which 51 were female headed households.

MILEAR is doing its best to boost production and productivity delivering better irrigation technologies and practices in collaboration with Steering Committee composed of Oromia zone administration, department of water, finance and economic development, agriculture and food security, disaster prevention and protection bureaus.   

DSC 0117MILEAR carries out irrigation works rehabilitating water sources like springs, boreholes and rivers in Dewachefa and Artumafursi districts of Oromia zone in Amhara Region benefit a total of 746 farmers of which 623 were men while the remaining 123 were women.

Participants who withdrew from Canada (CHF), CHF Country Director, ANRS Administration, ANRS Bureau of Water, ORDA’s Executive and Deputy Directors, Oromia Zone Administration and project staff  visited achievements of the project and witnessed its effectiveness and a thorough discussion held at Kemissie.

Moreover, MILEAR supports farmers to enhance better crop production, natural resource management, livestock, market linkages, gender and environment related activities.
