President of the Federal Democratic Republic ofEthiopia Dr. Mulatu Teshome while attending ORDA’s 10th general assembly as a guest of honor disclosed that the Organization for Rehabilitation and Development in Amhara (ORDA) is benefiting the community in the region with its developmental activities for the last five years.
His Excellency expressed that ORDA commencing from its foundation has set encouraging fruitful footprints in all its developmental activities to improve and change the lives of the community in the region.
The President also notifying that the organization shall introduce new implementation modalities and technologies on its developmental initiatives, the regional government and the community should also strengthen their supports as the previous to make development achievements more successful.
Furthermore, the Amhara National Regional Sate president, Ato Gedu Andargachew said ORDA was founded to provide humanitarian aids when war and famine were challenging the people in the region. Currently, however; ORDA is transformed to developmental activities for the last years and the communities are being benefited in the region, he said.
Ato Gedu also disclosed ORDA is on the side of the government against fighting poverty and backwardness. Moreover, the president appreciated booming accomplishments in restoration of natural resource management activities which has been depleted for centuries to ensure sustainable development.
He also added ORDA is helping millions by implementing various developmental endeavors on water resource development, food security & agricultural development and other thematic areas.
Ato Gedu announced that thegovernment will strengthen its support for those non-governmental organizations which play a great role for the development of the region.
Besides, the executive director of ORDA, Dr. Amlaku Asres explained that ORDA is benefiting more than 3 million people in its development activities in the last five years on the third strategic period.
In those years, ORDA enclosed 904 watersheds and more than 521 million seedlings were planted. For this reason, the diminished natural resources are being recovered, soil fertility is improved and ground water is developed, he said.
Furthermore, ORDA developed safe drinking water coverage of the region by constructing more than 855 safe drinking water schemes which are providing services for more than 676,400 beneficiaries.
Dr. Amlaku said the organization constructed irrigation schemes which can provide irrigation services for more than 59 thousand households to create sustainable economy by cultivating 10,200 hectare lands.
The 10th general assembly was wrapped up after reviewing & adopting the third round five years strategic plan, presenting the external audit report and finally confirming the fourth round five years strategic plan.
