  A new ATCP project is launched to reduce the prevalence of blinding trachoma

ORDA CBM Germany project familiarization workshop held on 12 April 2018 in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia. The project is targeted to benefit 180 thousand HHs (91 thousand Female) in West Belesa, East Belesa and Ebnat districts of Amhara region.

The five years project (from January 2018 to December 2022) is launched with 49 Million Eth. Birr secured from CBM Germany to reduce prevalence rates of active Trachoma in the three target districts through implementing the WHO endorsed SAFE strategy.

The project also targets to increase the water coverage of each district by 13.4% from the baseline to improve the quality of life of children, women and other parts of people.

Dr. Amlaku Asres, Executive Director of ORDA, asserted that CBM consortiums from Germany, Canada, Italy and Australia have been generously funding the people to prevent trachoma prevalence in the region. The Executive Director gratefully appreciates donors in the name of beneficiaries of ORDA and calls for a strong partnership.

Ato Wubante Yalew, CBM representative claimed ORDA’s partnership started since 2006 G.C in WASH project and currently works to reduce the prevalence of blinding trachoma, and contribute towards the achievement of the Global Elimination of Trachoma by 2020 and then after the project will focus on prevention of Trachoma disease.

It is noted that currently ORDA has been implementing the Trachoma projects in 13 districts of Amhara region in partnership with CBM- Germany, Italy, Canada and Australia.
