ORDA-EPA Horticultural Processing Plant starts off Test Production

Fruit and Processing Plant funded by Federal Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) in collaboration with Organization for Rehabilitation and Development in Amhara (ORDA) stared off its Test Production.

It is disclosed that the plant started off its test production while practical trainings provided for 30 unemployed youths organized in Micro & Small Enterprise Development for 15 days from 08/07/2013 to 22/07/2013 consecutively.

Employees of Organization for Rehabilitation and Development in Amhara (ORDA) expressed their readiness to provide the necessary support toward success of construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

Ayalew GobezieHis Excellency Ayalew Gobezie, the Chief Administrator of the Amhara National Regional State, announced “ORDA’s 2013 plan has considered our areas of interest. So, we will closely follow up its implementation”. He revealed his view after ORDA’s plan was presented to the 9th Annual General Assembly of the organization held in Bahir Dar in 15th March, 2013.

ORDA has strengthened development effort of the region by focusing on and involving in areas of interventions that the regional government couldn’t manage. 

His Excellency Addisu Legesse, formerly Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Deputy Prime Minister, currently EPRDF Training Center Director, on his part, said “ORDA has started its engagement in food aid distribution and has now presented us its development gift it harvested from its development effort. This is because of its capability in involving a number of farmers in different areas of interventions”.

The Program Allows  Unions to avail Financial Service.

It is announced that the Graduation with Resilience to Achieve Sustainable Development (GRAD) Programme has created enabling environment for Cooperative Unions to avail financial service to value chain customer house households for activities including agricultural inputs.

Dagne Taddesse, the Programme Coordinator in ORDA, noted that creating favorable conditions for GRAD’s beneficiary households in Lay Gayint and Libo Kemkem Woredas to access financial services from unions which enable them to engage in crop, livestock and other income generation activities is imperative. He also added that proper support for those beneficiaries’ will be provided from different concerned governmental & private institutions.

Accordingly, the Organization for Rehabilitation and Development in Amhara (ORDA) has recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) separately with Lidet Saving & Credit Cooperatives Union and Ras Gayint Multi-Purpose Cooperatives Union in Lay Gayint, and Rib Saving & Credit Cooperatives Union in Libo Kemkem woreda, Dagne stressed.

From Relief to Sustainable Food Security

The historic preceding documents noted that ORDA-GAA joint cooperation basically started in relief and transformed into sustainable food security with an integrated rural development programs aimed at developing self reliance on food security in different areas of the Amhara Region some years ago.
