Agriculture-Focused Dignified Employment for Youth in Ethiopia Program Familiarization Regional Workshop Has Been Held.

About eight percent of citizens in Ethiopia are unemployed. Especially, many young people in the middle age did not get job opportunities. In order to reduce the problem, a youth job creation program focused on agriculture will be implemented in the Amhara region for the next 5 years through ORDA Ethiopia and the Agricultural Transformation Institute with financial support from MasterCard Foundation.

Speaking at the opening of the program in Bahir Dar, the Head of Amahara Region’s Agricultural Bureau, Dr.  Diress Sahlu said that the program will create many jobs for unemployed people in the region. Ato Tsehaye Asmare, deputy executive director of ORDA Ethiopia, while presenting his opinion, said that since the program will improve the lives of many unemployed youths, attention should be given to access to financial services for youths engaged in agriculture.

The program works with the objective of creating employment opportunities for the youth by providing material and capacity building support. When ORDA Ethiopia implements the program in 3 administration zones (Awi zone, North Gojjam Zone & Central Gondar Zones), it will create various job opportunities for 46,111 young people; 80 percent of them will be women.
